What is the Meaning of Fordo?

Fordo

Let me now explain to you
The meaning of the word fordo
A word that not so much these days is said
Hailing from the olden days
It means destroy or do away
As in “I shall fordo that rusty shed!”

In modern times the word has changed
Letters have been rearranged
To express when one is overcome
By fatigue or exhaustion
As in when you’ve been for a swim
You might well say, “Alas I am fordone!”what is an acrostic? a poem about acrostics, an example of an acrostic, an acrostic poem, the best acrostic poem ever written

The Meaning of Bacciferous

Bacciferous

If I said that something was
Bacciferous it is because
It certainly has the ability,

To produce or generate
Bring forth, bear and generate
Nothing other than a humble berry.

The Law of Your and You and You're!

You/Your/You’re

Here’s what you should and shouldn’t do
When you use the pro-noun “you”
You know, the word you use to designate
The person you are addressing
As in, “Gosh you are depressing”
When referring to another person’s state.

But listen here my little friend,
If “r” is found at “you’s” rear end,
The word takes on a sudden transformation;
For then the word, it does take on,
The very essence of “belongs”
As in, “Excuse me sir but is this your train station?”

But if you add an "r" and "e"
After an apostrophe
What you mean is something someone’s doing,
Like, “You’re certainly disturbing me
If you’re wearing that to tea,
Doing so will end up your undoing!”

So please don’t be a moron
When you need to put an r on
Otherwise you might cop some abuse,
For your and you’re might seem the same
But they’re not, THEY’RE NOT the same!
And after reading this you've no excuse!

The Meaning of Wadi

Wadi

I found out that the word Wadi
Refers to a dry and rocky
Channel in a desert area
One that is especially
Specific to and usually
Found in parts of Northern Africa

Sometimes more than that it can
Be a gully on dry land
That becomes a short lived kind of stream,
A torrent that will only run
When the heavy rain does come
Coursing through what was a dry ravine.

What is the Meaning of Vacillate?

Vacillate

If you’re the type to vacillate
It means you do facilitate
A hesitant or unsure certainty,
Implying that back and forth you swing
In your beliefs and your feelings
Making you act indecisively.

Kind of like a person who
Holds up the rest of the queue
While they think about what they should eat
They “um” and “ah” and scratch their heads,
“Should I this, or that instead?
And should I take-away or take a seat?”

What is a Tabernacle?

Tabernacle

The Tabernacle was a tent
Purposefully made and meant
Specifically to be a sanctuary
Or a kind of portable
Temple, but demountable,
For the Israelites when stationary

For in the days when it was used
The people then called The Hebrews
Wandered through the wilderness a bit
But when they stopped up went the tent,
As said in the Old Testament,
While the cloud of God hovered above it!

A Tabernacle though these days
Is a box found on display
In a church which does contain within
Wine, the kind said to be red,
And the kind of crispy bread
That is used for the Holy Communion

That is though the tradition
Of the Catholic position
Which is unlike some other Christian types
To whom a tabernacle is
What a place of worship is
A church building or chapel if you like.

What is a Sabbatical?

Sabbatical

How nice it would be to receive
A time of paid extended leave
A nice long break from where I am employed
To do the things I want to do
And not the things I’m made to do
When I’m at work where nothing is enjoyed!

Apparently a lecturer
Can become a wanderer
And take something called a Sabbatical
That is a lot of time away
For weeks and months and many days
To do “research” and probably to travel

Slight investigation
Only proves the word’s relation
To the Sabbath day of calm respite
Except in this case here
A Sabbatical’s a year!
A year off after six of work sounds right!

What is the Meaning of Manifold?

Manifold

Imagine that within my home
Are myriads of telephones
Of different variations new and old
The adjective that best describes
The bunch of phones I have inside
In varied forms is the word manifold

It implies great diversity
And also multiplicity,
Variety as well or so I’m told
So if there’s an array
Of anything just say
“Manifold” of what you now behold!

But also if I said of you
Something that was very true
For lots of different reasons not a few
I can use the word to
Exemplify about you
That you are a manifold cuckoo!

And finally you might
Come across a kind of pipe
With many joints and also lots of holes
I can clearly state
The word that designates
This type of pipe is also manifold.

Gainsay
If you find I don’t agree

And say the opposite is true instead!

What is the Meaning of Forbear?

Forbear

If perchance you ever hear
Me swear that I will now forbear
What I'm saying is “I will do without”
As in this sentence here:
“I decided to forbear
Wearing jeans for my lack of a belt.

But I’m afraid there’s more
And so we can’t ignore
That this word can turn into “forbore
Which really means the same
As forbear yet again
But in, “I forbore from entering the store.”

And so this tricky word
Is a rather useful verb
With synonyms like abjure or abstain
So if you find that ever
You want to sound quite clever
Use forbear to substitute “refrain”

Is the baccalaureate as well
And the degree that you have earned
For the things that you did learn
Is called the baccalaureate itself!

What is Vaccinia?

Vaccinia

Way back in the olden days
It happened that some dairy maids
Touched the ailed udders of a cow
And none of them were very pleased
To catch from it a skin disease
Which gave them blisters and a furrowed brow

Cowpox was the malady
That put the maidens I'll at ease
A virus passed on from the cow to them
Related to vaccinia
But not so much to tinea
A shame there were no latex gloves back then!
