The Meaning of Alcelaphine, Antilopine and Bubaline

Alcelaphine, Antilopine and Bubaline

Once upon another time
I met a young Alcelaphine
Who wanted me to share my cantaloupe!
I told him that there was no way
And said to him, "Now go away
And eat some grass like other antelope!"

To which the antilopine pest
Walked away looking depressed
Leaving me to relish my melon,
But as my teeth sunk into it
I had a great conniption fit
Because it had been taken by the felon!

Somehow the antilopine brute
Had switched my cantiloupine fruit
With a fetid bitter boot instead!
I knew that the alcelaphine
Was the doer of the crime
For there it was on the horn on his head!

However I thought it was best
To give it up and not protest
When I saw a herd of bubaline
Creatures had come out to feast,
Some buffalo and a hartebeast,
Upon the fruit that was no longer mine!
