Habergeon
Once I took a little trip
In my time traveling ship
And visited the medieval days
You see I was on a mission
To find myself a habergeon
And thought I might find one in the crusades
Finally I found a male
Knight wearing the cold chain mail
And asked if he would sell the shirt to me
To which he rather curtly said
“Without this vest I would be dead,
I would not part with it for any fee!”
“But,” I said, “it has no sleeves
And does not go down to your knees
Wouldn’t you prefer a safer shirt?”
And finally the knight agreed
To give his habergeon to me
And swapped it for a much longer Hauberk.
So now I wear upon my chest
A super heavy metal vest
Despite the crowds who point at me and laugh
For although it’s a funny sight
It keeps me feeling safe at night
And makes me rather hard to chop in half!
